Restaurant Review: Caffe Florian – Venice, Italy

afternoontea

I have to say Caffe Florian is the most romantic cafe I’ve ever been to and I guess my absolute favorite one. How can I top off a setting in Piazza San Marco, Venice, Italy! It is located in the middle of the Piazza San Marco with tables sprawled from the open doors into the Piazza.

We grabbed a cushion bench seat recessed against the front walkway wall – prime location for great people watching. It was between lunch and dinner time, what you’d call “afternoon tea time” which also happens to be the most affordable bite on the menu. I’m happy to say Caffe Florian is not near the live music performance, which tends to feel a little too cheesy and touristy.

I loved lingering in our cushion bench watching the bustle of people carrying on about their goings. It didn’t seem too long before this luxurious platter was placed on our table. Although the scones and sandwiches seemed so simple, they were surprisingly delicious to perfection. We ate every single thing off this platter and didn’t leave a scrap. The tuna sandwiches had the perfect tender fresh chew and flavor without being too fishy. The scones were just as impressive as they were buttery and soft with a nice crusty edge. The tea was so delicious I think we could have sat there ’til sunset drinking pot after pot. I can’t wait to go back.
