Wake up guys, here’s the one recipe you should know if you want to truly win over someone’s heart. This Tiramisu recipe comes directly from the single most romantic place on Earth – Venice. Put aside any dairy fears, pop in some lactase, and dig in. This only takes 30 minutes, the fridge does the rest. A friend once told me the secret to an amazing Tiramisu is a top-notch mascarpone cheese. So do not skimp and pick the best mascarpone selection that your cheese guru recommends. Let the love begin..

Recipe Review: Molly Killeen’s St. Louis Gooey Butter Cake

It’s pastry season. I’m thinking of all the cakes, pies and cookies I’ll get to surround myself with thanks to the upcoming holidays.
Here’s something I can’t wait to try out. I basically drooled all over myself while reading about it. The magic of butter, sugar and eggs creates this cake that’s as irresistible as the “center of a pecan pie” without the oversweetness. It hardly resembles a cake with it’s sticky and flaky texture – so my friends who happen not to like cake should like this (that’s crazy and I don’t understand how someone doesn’t like cake).
Recipe: by Melissa Clark
Yield: 16-20 Servings
Time: Total 4 hours 15 minutes
Ingredients:
For the cake:
3 tablespoons milk at room temperature
1 3/4 teaspoons active dry yeast
6 tablespoons unsalted butter at room temperature
3 tablespoons sugar
1 teaspoon kosher salt
1 large egg
1 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
For the topping:
3 tablespoons plus 1 teaspoon light corn [...]

Got Milk? Summer Personality Milkshake Event at BLD – Los Angeles, CA

blueberries&h=150&w=200&zc=1

Got Milk? and BLD Pastry Chef Mariah Swan hosted one of the sweetest summer events in Los Angeles – Personality in a Cup Summer Milkshakes. It was as if someone dove into my book of favorite things and created this event all just for me. Well it wasn’t just for me, but I was certainly ecstatic to be invited to join in with a group of fellow milk and sweets fans. When I was asked if I wanted to attend an event where I would get to taste different milkshakes created by Chef Swan at BLD – I was spinning faster than a Cuisinart.
We were treated to a medley of milkshakes ranging from traditional to truly unique – such as Green Tea Passionfruit. There were milkshake stations set-up where you could create your own personality milkshake and share them. It was truly one of the [...]

Recipe: Caramel Espresso Float

One of my absolute favorite desserts is incredibly simple – the Gelato Affogato. I always have to explain to my friends how something so plain and simple is just incredibly delicious. However, I don’t need to say anything with this one. Here’s a recipe for Caramel Espresso Float that takes the gelato affogato to town.
This float looks like a birthday party. It has my favorite vanilla ice cream pairing – espresso coffee and then topped with a drool worthy caramel. This is very special as birthdays should be. I don’t need the additional frills of whipped cream or nuts, but my sisters love it. I just like tons of caramel on mine and enjoy the simultaneous hot-cold. Oh I forgot to mention, I like my espresso hot and then dump scoops of ice cream in the bowl – much like the gelato [...]

Here’s a recipe for Chocolate Chili Bread Pudding that is ready in less than an hour. It’s warm gooey sweet fudgy goodness in a bowl that is pure bliss. Make sure you use the best chocolate you can. This is something my sisters are going to love.

Recipe: Vanilla Pots de Creme

I know this sounds so fancy and fancy recipes sound like they’re going to be difficult and expensive. Not at all with this one. This recipe for Vanilla Pots de Creme was a blast to make in my cooking class at the New School of Cooking and truly yummy. This is a cross between a custard and pudding – it’s super creamy but light – not rich like creme brulee. I love vanilla bean and so am forever keeping this one as a favorite recipe.
It’s super easy and the trick is to make sure you really carefully temper the fluffy mixture of yolk-sugar with the boiled milk-vanilla bean mixture. I carefully whisked in spoonfulls at a time of the boiled mixture and continued whisking while slowly pouring in more of the boiled mixture. If you don’t do this, you basically get an [...]

Recipe: Flourless Black Sesame Seed Peanut Butter Cookies

I can’t help it, I love peanut butter cookies. This is something I’ve never seen before. Here’s a recipe for Flourless Black Sesame Seed Peanut Butter Cookies. I love the rich nutty flavor of black sesame seeds in the sweet chinese dumplings, but this is even better. These peanut butter cookie balls are rolled in black sesame seeds to give extra nutty crisp in each bite. I prefer my peanut butter cookies to be crispier by having them flattended with the fork cross and sprinkles of black sesame seeds on top.

Time: Total 45 minutes
Ingredients:
1 cup creamy peanut butter (not natural)
3/4 cup sugar
1 large egg
1 teaspoon baking soda
5 tablespoons black sesame seeds

Recipe: Molten Chocolate Lava Baby Cakes

I still remember the first time I had a chocolate lava cake, I was so sad when my plate was empty and I always order this if I see it on a menu. There is no chocolate dessert that compares to this. The hot melting center of dark chocolate surrounded by moist cake to sop it up with is better than anything else. Now I can make this at home with this recipe for Molten Chocolate Lava Baby Cakes. I like to serve it with a little scoop of vanilla bean ice cream on the side to have that hot-cold swirl to scoop up.

50g soft unsalted butter, plus more for greasing
350g best dark chocolate

Recipe: Chocolate Peanut Butter Fudge Sundae

I love serving playful looking yummy desserts whenever I get together with my sisters. There are so many variations that we’ve created with ice cream. I found a new one that I’m so excited about. I know they’re going to looooove this one. Here’s a recipe for Chocolate Peanut Butter Fudge Sundae. If you like peanut butter cups and ice cream, you’ll fall in love with this one.
I leave the salty peanuts on the side but others like the nutty crunch added. It’s fun to try variations of the ice cream scoops. My favorite is 1/2 scoop vanilla, 1/2 scoop toffee, 1/2 scoop chocolate, 1/2 scoop caramel and a large pour of the chocolate peanut butter fudge sauce. I like mine in a wide flat dish so I can taste them individually before mixing them together.
