Holiday Lattes by Got Milk? and Heather Perry at Le Pain Quotidien – West Hollywood, CA

Heather Perry, the National Barista Champ, teamed up with Got Milk? to share her homemade latte recipes for a festive holiday event at Le Pain Quotidien in West Hollywood. It’s amazing how you can take just a few simple ingredients that you already have in the kitchen to make several different holiday drinks. Check out the recipes below. My favorite are the Eggnog Latte and Tres Leches Latte. There are even non-coffee drinks too such as the Holiday Frozen Hot Chocolate. Enjoy some of the pictures below taken from the event. We got to enjoy several yummy sweet treats – mini brownies, blondies, custard tarts as well as fabulous Got Milk! giveaways including an apron, electric frother, Moka coffee pot, insulated grocery bag, and a $25 Amex gift card!

Restaurant Review: Currant Brasserie – San Diego, CA

It’s hard to find a decent nice place serving good food for dinner in the downtown area of San Diego that doesn’t smell like a frat party. Currant Brasserie is just around the corner at the base of the Sofia Hotel. It’s about the same mid-high price range as most dinner restaurants around here but has the atmosphere and matching food fare of a classic french bistro all in one cozy laid back location. This is an adorable and comfortable place that takes you out of the city. Here’s the order: Vanilla bean creme brulee (top pic), Salmon tartar (pic below), Scallop risotto fritters, Steak Frites, Macaroni cheese gratinee, Mussles Frites, Leek fromage blanc beet tart, Grilled halibut with figs and saffron rice, 3 onion cheese soup, Saffron pistachio ice cream. Here’s a sample of items from their dinner menu: MENU: Starters: Caramelized Five Onion Soup – Aged jack cheese [...]

Restaurant Review: Extraordinary Desserts – San Diego, CA

I’m always looking for a late night place that serves a full menu of fresh savory treats, wide selection of cheese to nibble, and most importantly a serious variety of hot fresh out of the oven pastries and extravagant desserts to please any mood or occasion. The best spot in San Diego is a place in Little Italy called Extraordinary Desserts. There’s no guessing game with this name, everything here is extraordinary! Their chocolate croissaint bread pudding enraptured everyone and was a constant topic days later. This is a dish worth traveling for. Everyone kept talking about how soon we could go back for another round. Their menu is amazing – full of hot fresh paninis, salads, bruschettas, artisan cheese selection and more! Chocolate croissant bread pudding. Tray of chocolate croissant bread pudding. Strawberry raspberry coffee cake. Raspberry Linzer danish. Kiwi lemonade. Greek tomato feta olive cucumber panini on ciabatta. [...]

Got Milk? Summer Personality Milkshake Event at BLD – Los Angeles, CA

blueberries&h=150&w=200&zc=1

Got Milk? and BLD Pastry Chef Mariah Swan hosted one of the sweetest summer events in Los Angeles – Personality in a Cup Summer Milkshakes. It was as if someone dove into my book of favorite things and created this event all just for me. Well it wasn’t just for me, but I was certainly ecstatic to be invited to join in with a group of fellow milk and sweets fans. When I was asked if I wanted to attend an event where I would get to taste different milkshakes created by Chef Swan at BLD – I was spinning faster than a Cuisinart. We were treated to a medley of milkshakes ranging from traditional to truly unique – such as Green Tea Passionfruit. There were milkshake stations set-up where you could create your own personality milkshake and share them. It was truly one of the funnest summer events in [...]

Restaurant Review: Ono Gelato Company – Paia, Maui

What’s better than shave ice or ice cream or frozen yogurt? How about gelato from the new Ono Gelato Company in Maui! If you actually think you might tire of frozen treats, they also have amazing pastries – specifically the most insane cinnamon roll with an inch thick llikoi frosting. I actually finished mine before walking out the door….oops While indulging yourself, you are actually giving back to the community and environment at the same time! Ono Gelato is completely eco-friendly and supports local communities with their Farm to Fork operation. They have 2 adorable modern outfits – the main one in Paia (bottom pic) and recent one in Lahaiana. It’s fun to munch on the gelato and pastries while browsing the rest of their store items – local coffee, jam, butters, eco clothing, and candies. The people working here are so easy going and welcoming, probably why I came [...]

Grocery Bag: Haagen Dazs Coffee Low-Fat Frozen Yogurt

This weekend is all about Nina Simone and Haagen Dazs – that is, Haagen Dazs Coffee low-fat frozen yogurt (gotta keep whatever I’ve got going on for my girlish figure). The combination is magical. When you’re in need of being treated better, considerably sweeter than the capability of others, lovely happiness is unfolded with Haagen Dazs Low-Fat Frozen Yogurt. These little pints provide an abundance of satisfying sweetness in every tiny bite. The quality of the frozen yogurt is so exquisite, only the smallest spoonful is required to feel the love you were missing. Totally smooth and creamy without any foaminess. I like using a fork instead of a spoon with my desserts, especially ice cream or frozen yogurt – because it actually achieves it’s purpose much more efficiently than a spoon. The spoon just kind of pushes and shoves it away, whereas the fork actually digs in with less [...]

Restaurant Preview: Eating Guide to Comic-Con International 2009 – San Diego

This week begins possibly the biggest annual event of the summer, Comic-Con International 2009. I will be joining the insane crowds of comic, sci-fi, film and tv fans from around the world, all in the little town of San Diego. Yes, I will be totally geeking it up, full-throttle style this week. Since I’m a total newbie to Comic-Con, I’ve been doing some research in preparation for my visit by creating a list of places for good nearby eating potential in any situation – bagging it, take-out, fine dining, delivery, drive-by etc. What other kind of list did you expect from me? This is really important! This event is known for crazy massive crowds, amazing programs and showcases, but definitely not good food. I’m not sure what to expect or where I’ll be going, but at least I’m armed with my handy list that can supply me with some good [...]

Restaurant Review: Yxta Cocina Mexicana – Los Angeles

Last weekend, I had one of the greatest dinners of the year – the kind where you spend a long evening with several good friends over good food. I’m telling you, it’s extremely hard trying to coordinate a group of people to agree on the same time and place. We were very excited to finally get to try out the (fairly) new place in downtown, Yxta Cocina Mexicana. There’s nothing better after a long week than to share delicious food and lots of laughter with a group of friends. There are so many places in Los Angeles where you can get some satisfying Mexican food around the clock, from fine dining to taco trucks, mariachi bands to take-out stands, L.A.’s got them all. Yxta stands apart from all of this. It’s the perfect balance between authentic food and fine dining. The interior automatically put us at ease while feeling ready [...]

Restaurant Review: Scoops – Lahaina, Maui

There’s a main street in every town where you can take a leisure stroll and browse the huddles of shops and eateries. That’s Front Street in Lahaina for Maui. It’s the best main street location, where you have the beach immediately next to you for the entire path. I like to spend the late evenings here, just a few hours before everything closes down, munching on dessert while browsing all the local shops. It was really nice how all the shops let me walk around their store with my food. I usually get at least 1 out of 3 stores that would ask me to toss it out or place it on their counter, boooooo, but not here. So that is mostly why I enjoyed spending the tail-end of my evenings on Front St – starting with a visit to Scoops for some shave ice or Lappert’s ice cream. Now [...]

Restaurant Review: Mama’s Fish House – Paia, Maui

I just came back from the best Hawaii trip to Maui and have so much to share. It’s going to take at least 5 days of non-stop writing to finish everything. So the first thing I did, before I even got to Maui, was to make reservations at Mama’s Fish House in Paia. It’s that good. You know how there are certain sights and experiences for every destination, that’s what this restaurant is for Maui. You haven’t fully experienced Maui until you’ve dined at Mama’s Fish House. I’ve only been to Maui once before and my dinner at Mama’s was one of my favorite memories. This second time around, it was even better than I thought possible. It’s impressive that this place has been around since the early 70′s. The food, service, location, and atmosphere is impossibly perfect. If it wasn’t so darn $$$$, I’d dine there more than just [...]
